Three youth die after consuming poison

Three youth including two schoolgirls and one youth died after consuming poison here on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

While Ratanpur locality resident Sudhansu Rawat committed suicide on Tuesday by swallowing poison at his residence, on the other hand two students of Government Inter College Motadhang died after consuming insecticide on Monday.

The question being raised is how the poison was sold to students who were on their school uniforms.

The Kotdwar sub divisional magistrate, Police circle officer and Kotwali inspector held a meeting on Tuesday and decided to hold a meeting with the members of the local business fraternity to instruct them against selling insecticides or any poisonous item to minors and also to record details of any such item being sold.

On Monday two girls of the Government Inter College Motadhang purchased the insecticide in Kotdwar and went to their college. After the prayer, they left the college and consumed the poison.

The duo fainted near Motornagar and began vomitting. They were taken to the joint hospital at Kotdwar by members of the public where one girl died soon after being admitted and the second girl whose condition was said to be critical at the time of being admitted also succumbed to the poison later during the day.

The girls belonged to Shivrajpur and Chandan areas of Kotdwar. The Kotdwar SHO Anil Joshi told The Pioneer that one of the girls was residing with her mother as her father had left home and family. Both the girls were said to be suffering from depression due to domestic factors.
