Three SSB personnel were injured after a tree fell on them at an SSB camp in Champawat’s Banbasa area when a storm accompanied by thunder and rain raged across the State late night on Thursday. However, no loss of life was reported from anywhere, as per the district administration Champawat.
Several of the electricity poles were grounded aside from roofs of many tin-shaded houses being blown away in some parts of Champawat district, it is learnt. Besides, the farmers who are now trying to overcome the loss of crops wreaked by unseasonal rains suffered another setback as the thunderstorm damaged their standing crops, vegetables and fruits grown across the region.
Train services from Champawat’s Tanakpur area remained affected on Friday morning for some hours after trees had fallen on the tracks late last night. The roads were also blocked due to the same in other parts of the region.
Traffic was affected in Haldwani on Friday due to the roads blocked by trees felled by the storm. Several roads like Haldwani-Rampur Road and Haldwani- Bareli Road bore the brunt of the storm.
Problems were further compounded for the people as electricity went off due to local faults caused by the electricity poles being uprooted. Different parts of Haldwani were without power for over 10 hours since late Thursday night. Supply was restored around Friday noon in many places.
Electricity supply remaining disrupted adversely affected drinking water supply too on Friday in different areas of Haldwani which, by and large, are dependent on power-driven drinking water system like tube-wells.
