As Anant Chaturdashi is slated to be celebrated on Sunday, thousands of devotees will be seen marching in processions and bidding farewell to the lord Ganesha by way of immersion. However, some immersion processions were taken out on Saturday too. However, Sunday being the final day of the festival, maximum number of such processions would be taken out today.
Hindus celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi for 10 days and the 11th day is fixed for Ganesh Visarjan. The idols are immersed in the rivers or the sea, symbolsing a ritual see-off of the lord in his journey towards his abode up in snowy Kailash. The lord is believed to take away with him the misfortunes of his devotees, said Amit Sharma, a priest from lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Dehradun.
Muhurat for the immersion will be from 06:33 am to 12:06 on Sunday. After the morning rituals, around 5000 devotees will start going to Haridwar to immerse the idols from the temple
premises from 10:00 amonwards, said Ashish Purohit an astrologer based in Prachin Shiv Mandir. “The lord grants boons on the devotees and rids them of the misfortunes,” he added.
“The ghats in Haridwar would be chock-a-block with devotees out to immerse the idols of the lord on Sunday. We enjoy participating in it while the immersion saddens us as we have to wait for a year to celebrate the festival of our beloved lord,” said Vineeta, a resident of Araghar.c
