The State Forest and Wildlife, Sports and law Minister Dinesh Aggarwal termed the protest staged against setting up of the waste treatment plant and landfill as wrong.

He appealed to the protesters to desist from opposing the waste management work in the larger good of the town and people of the State. Regarding the concern raised by locals about the waste treatment plant generating pollution, the Minister said that municipal officials had already been directed earlier to ensure that concerns raised by the locals are addressed effectively.

In his official statement issued on Monday, the State Cabinet Minister and Dharmpur MlA opined that protest against the establishment of waste treatment plant at Shishambada was wrong.

Appealing to the locals to enable the necessary work for the greater good of the city and State, the Minister added that concern regarding probability of contamination of the air and water contamination among any other concern of the locals related to the treatment plant here will also be addressed effectively.

Aggarwal said, “Chief Minister Harish Rawat had in the past directed officials of the municipal corporation of Dehradun to ensure that the concerns being raised by the local residents should be resolved. Respecting the sentiments of the local residents, the municipal corporation of Dehradun should clear their doubts regarding the plant.”

Expressing disappointment at not being invited to the foundation stone laying ceremony for the waste treatment plant and landfill, the Minister averred that despite the opposition, he would have attended the programme. Despite being an ex-officio member of the board of the municipal corporation of Dehradun, he was not invited for the occasion, said Aggarwal.

The Minister further averred that he has “always remained concerned about the level of civic sanitation in the city and has held meetings with municipal officials from time to time regarding sanitation issues and issued necessary directions to them”.
