Those not covered under National Food Security have to procure new ration cards under State scheme

Now, the people who have not been covered under the National Food Security Scheme have to procure the new ration cards under the State Food Security Scheme. However, the Government officials say that those whose income is more than `5 lakh will not be issued any ration card. They further say that the residents should not use ration cards for their identification or as residential proof, meant as they are for drawing subsidised rations under public distribution system.

The complications came up  after the Central Government launched National Food Security Scheme and the  new ration cards under the said scheme were issued to the beneficiaries whose  income is less than or equal to `15, 000 per month. On the same pattern, the State Government has launched State Food Security Scheme and those whose income stands less than or equal to `5 lakh per annum are eligible to collect new ration card to avail SFSS.
