Those involved in food grain scam would be punished: Chief Minister

Reiterating his Government’s unwavering resolve to stamp out corruption from Uttarakhand, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that those embroiled in the recently exposed food grain scam would not be spared. “A thorough inquiry would be conducted into the multi-crore food grain scam and all those to be found involved in the fund embezzlement and document tampering would have to face the consequences,” he said while participating in Janta Milan organised in City Montessori School premises at Kotdwar on Saturday. He also announced a slew of development measures, including raising Rs 2 lakh loan limit for the small farmers.

Rawat said that electrification of all  the national parks located in the state would start on October 8, adding that a government order has been issued for the construction of a 12 km motor road along the stretch of  Simbalchor-Sitabpur and Haldukhata- Durgapur.

The people who gathered at the programme complained of several problems plaguing their localities related to  education, health, electricity, drinking water and the like. They also pointed out to the CM that the payment of the Government-sanctioned economic assistance and compensation is erratic in Pauri district.

Rawat assured them that all-out efforts are being made for development and employment of  the youth at the  Naaya Panchayat level. “We are aware of the fact that scanty education and health facilities are goading people living in the mountainous districts to migrate to other places. To arrest the trend, rural development and migration commission has  been constituted in the district headquarter Pauri. The crunch of teachers and doctors would also be removed shortly,” added Rawat, adding that the loan limit of Rs 2 lakh to the small farmers under Deen Dayal Upadhaya Cooperative Kishan Welfare Scheme would be raised.  He said that the agriculture and horticulture would adopt the Himachal Pradesh model to boost self employment. Sounding happy over the pace with which voluntary land consolidation is going on in the district, CM said that it would go a long way in reviving agriculture in the hills and mitigating the migration menace consequently.

Among those present at Janta Milann were the state BJP president Ajay Bhatt, cabinet minister  and MlA Kotdwar Harak Singh Rawat, MlA lansdowne Dalip Singh Rawat, Zila Panchayat vice-president Suman Kotnala, Palika chairman Rashmi Agrawal and district magistrate  Sushil Kumar.
