The book ‘The Sals of Valley: A memorial to Dehradun’ written by Pradeep Singh was launched during the event organised by The Booknerds on Sunday. The book consists of seven stories from the villages of Dehradun and the characters Singh himself met in his life.
Speaking on the occasion Singh said, “I told my grandsons about the stories of Dehradun and then I started writing about all of them as one day they would want to know about the city. Then gradually I started writing about the history of Uttarakhand.”
He further said, “Sal trees are widely found in Dehradun. In the British era, these were used commercially but they soon realised that depletion of these forests can be catastrophic and then preserved some forests. Thano is a very good example of it.”
The event coordinator Sargam Mehra said, “The event was a very good platform for getting a deep insight about Dehradun. Knowing the history of Darbar Sahib, tea gardens and many more stories that happened in the city in the past was a wonderful experience. It was also an interactive session, and the younger generation got a chance to know more about the history of the city.”
