A unique feature film — The Girl — directed by Shaswati Talukdar was screened at ‘The Muse’ in the Doon valley on Sunday morning.
Shot entirely in Dehradun, the film belongs to the Himalayan Gothic genre. This genre has been created by the film makers for The Girl. The film was inspired by seven-year old, Maemi Nauriyal who performed the pivotal role of the girl. The girl lives in an isolated mansion with a woman who she refers to as ‘The Mad lady’. This woman is her caretaker and watches her all the time. Their odd life is disrupted when the Mad lady can see something she was previously oblivious to. The film is a collaborative project made with no funding. Naomi Nauriyal and Sudarshan Juyal were the other actors in the film whereas the role of the little girl’s caretaker was performed by Sujata Paul Maliah
Chief guest BVRC Purushottam said that he was happy to know that the film was made by film makers belonging to Dehradun. He said that the government would support film makers who want to shoot in Uttarakhand and hoped that more films would be made here.
‘Rangroot’, also made by Shashwati Talukdar, was screened. A preview of “Char Betiyan, Char Baatein” being directed by Sujata Paul Maliah which will be staged in March, 2014 was also presented to the audience. Eminent citizens attended the premiere.
