Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat flagged off the test run of the State’s first electric bus service on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route. A similar service will also operate on the Haldwani-Nainital route. The CM flagged of the electric bus from his residence here on Tuesday morning.
It is pertinent to mention here that recently the State Government had framed an electric vehicle policy to encourage the operation of pollution-free electric vehicles in the State. In the recent Investors Summit, an MoU of Rs 700 crore was signed for the operation of electric buses in Uttarakhand.
In pursuance of this, Olectra Greentech Limited, Hyderabad, has provided the vehicle for the purpose of undertaking month-long test runs on the Dehradun-Mussoorie and Haldwani-Nainital routes. Uttarakhand Transport Corporation will operate 25 buses on Dehradun-Mussoorie and 26 buses on Haldwani-Nainital road on the GGC model.
Officials said that Olectra Greentech Limited is interested in plying 500 electric buses in the State. The low floor bus with 30 seats is equipped with CCTV, GPS and panic button. The operation of this electric bus results in minimal sound and vibration.
On this occasion, Chief Minister congratulated Uttarakhand Transport Corporation.
The State Transport Minister Yashpal Arya, local public representatives and officials concerned were also among those present on the occasion.
