Maj Gen SS Sabharwal GOC sub-area Uttarakhand flagged off the Terry Fox run on Tuesday. Also present on the occasion were the assistant headmaster, Doon School, PK Nair, Austrian Ambassador Bernhardt Wrabetz, chairperson of the Indo-Canadian Cancer Research Foundation and the Terry Fox Run, Shawn Reinacres and Gurmeet Singh, an old boy of the school. Along with them were Jeff Collier and Brian Anderson of the High Commission of Canada.

This year, there was a record turnout of 2,680 participants from 29 schools and institutions. Gurmeet Singh expressed his delight over the impressive turnout. He expects that in coming years, the numbers will grow even further.  This is a cause which really needs the attention of our society - especially the youngsters, he added.

The run is in memory of Terry Fox, a boy in Canada, diagnosed with cancer at age 18, who decided to raise funds and create awareness about the disease by running across Canada.  He ran over 5000 km, averaging about 40 km per day, before he succumbed to the disease.
