Tension erupted in Jiyapota village on Tuesday morning when the people came out on the streets to protest an attempt to damage a statue of Bhim Rao Ambedkar by some miscreants. The police from Laksar reached the site of tension in time and took control of the situation.

The people of the Dalit community started gathering on Tuesday morning in Jiyapota village of Laksar tehsil. The information reached the police that some miscreants had broken the spectacles on the face of the idol a night ago. Observers opined that the group of miscreants wanted to encroach on the land and had hence tried to demolish the idol.

On receiving information about this, the Laksar sub divisional magistrate Kusum Chauhan and Kankhal police station circle officer Bijendra Dobhal reached the village along with police force at 8.30 am. Though the situation came under control in the afternoon the police was deputed till the end of the day.Speaking to The Pioneer, the Kankhal police CO ankhal Bijendra Dobhal said, “We received information at 6 AM that some miscreants had broken the idol of Ambedkar.

By 8.30 am our team reached the spot and took the situation under control. The villagers said that they wished to replace the idol so a new idol was placed on the same site with their consent.”It is not the first time that such an attempt has been made to create tension in the village. In October last year as well, a similar incident had taken place though the police took stock of situation and brought it under control.
