Tender of 53 works published under Benam's name

Two days after Pauri Nagar Palika Parishad chairman Yashpal Benam was stripped of financial power by the State Government, a tender notice  for 53 works was published in the name of the chairman in a paper, sparking speculation over whether the State Government would take notice of it with the act meaning a violation of the Government order.

Notably, he was stripped of the financial power on September 14 and the tender notice was published on  September 16. The critics say that the board was not taken into confidence about the works for which tender was summoned. Taking a serious view of the matter, five members of Pauri Nagar Palika Parishad — Neelam Rawat,  Arvind Rawat, Jitendra Joshi, Deepak Rawat and Vinod Bisht have submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate Sushil Kumar on Wednesday,  demanding the tender notice of 53 works issued by the Nagar Palika be declared null and void.

It is learnt that during the board meeting held on September 11, the members were not informed of these 53 works. Vinod Bisht and others told the District Magistrate that Yashpal Benam must be stopped from trashing the norms this way. He had done it in the past following which the State Government stripped him of the financial power he was enjoying as the chairman of the civic body, they told the DM while insisting that the tender notice must be scrapped. DM is understood to have assured them of action to be taken according the law and  the municipal act.
