In pursuance of the Government’s Digital India initiative, the principal of Government Doon Medical College Dr Pradip Bharti Gupta inaugurated the teleradiology facility at GDMC hospital here.
With the start of this facility, any doctor sitting in his chamber will be able to the see the CT scan and MRI report of the patient and facilitate necessary treatment.
The patients too will not have to make repeated visits for the reports which will be sent directly to their e-mail address and mobile phones.
According to the doctors, teleradiology is a part of telemedicine which enables transmission of radiological patient images like x-rays, CT scans and MRIs, from one location to another for sharing with radiologists and physicians.
This technology has been successful in providing reports in areas where the no radiologists available.
According to officials there are many advantages of teleradiology which is especially helpful in bridging the gap in rural and mountainous areas where there is shortage of radiologists.
When a second opinion is needed for a particular treatment, teleradiology enables doctors to consult with experts in hospitals which in turn facilitates solutions in little time.
Further, the use of teleradiology has been taken up which has decreased the load on the radiology department. This also helps curtail the expenditure as experts are consulted as per the requirement.
