In order to redress public grievances, district administrative officers organised Tehsil Diwas programmes at different places across the district. Dehradun district magistrate Ravinath Raman attended a Tehsil Diwas programme at Rishikesh tehsil.

At Rishikesh, a total of 83 complaints were received which were related to road, peyjal, pension, revenue and forest departments. Some complaints were related to monkey menace. Out of 83, 50 public complaints were acted upon on the spot.

DM directed the district officers to solve unaddressed complaints received during Tehsil Diwas within the time frame set for them.

On the complaints related to Public Works Department (PWD) received during Tehsil Diwas, DM said that monsoon is active and rain is being reported from various parts of the district daily. This is proving difficult for them to repair the damaged roads, he said.  However, DM asked the PWD officials to start repairing the roads once the rainy season ends.

On the complaints saying that pensioners are not getting their due on time, DM Raman directed the social welfare department officials to release pensions to those who have not received them so far. DM admitted that due to shortage of funds, pension amount has not been transferred to the bank accounts of some of the pensioners. Things would be cleared once the funds are released by the state government.

On the complaint of monkey menace, DM directed the divisional forest officer, Dehradun to take appropriate steps to catch monkeys to end the menace.

Regarding a complaint that no doctor is deputed presently at Rishikesh Community Health Centre, DM assured that a doctor will soon be appointed. Following dengue menace in the district, one additional doctor will be deputed at Rishikesh community centre.

DM further said that works on Namami Gange Programme would be intensified in Rishkesh. This aside, the sanitation system will be revamped there.  The hotels found polluting Ganga by throwing wastes in it will be slapped with challans and this would be followed by more stringent action according to the laws.

On the occasion, the complainants said that many canals have been damaged in Rishikesh area.  DM directed irrigation department officers to conduct inspection of the damaged canals and take appropriate action.

According to the complainants, two teachers are deputed in Junior high School Barkot in place of five.  One out of the two teachers working is absent as he is sick.  Studies are being hampered because of this, they said.  DM Raman directed the education officer to appoint teachers for the same school.

On the complaints related to revenue, SDMs were directed to take steps after conducting inspection of the site.

SDM Swati Bhadauriya was present a Tehsil Diwas held at Dehradun tehsil. It is learnt that 35 out of 39 complaints received in course of the Tehsil Diwas were redressed on the spot at the behest of the SDM.  Those yet to be addressed were sent to the department officers concerned for redressal.
