The name of a school named after a Kargil war martyr in his native village in Tehri district was left without his name when the school was upgraded in 2005. The family members of the martyr state that this is an insult to the martyr but the authorities have remained apathetic despite the issue being raised with them repeatedly.
Dilvar Singh Rana was born on December 24, 1975 in Bor village in Tehri district. After passing his intermediate examination from the Government inter college in Kamand, Rana joined the Indian Army and after his first posting in Jamnagar, he got an opportunity to serve the nation in the Kargil war where he attained martyrdom on May 13, 1999.
In his memory, the State Government opened a girls’ junior high school in his native village Bor in 2001. This school was upgraded in 2005 and the name of the martyr was ticked off from the name of the school.
His family members blame the Government machinery for this, stating that it is an insult to the martyr. They complain that inspite of having complained in writing and verbally to the officials concerned repeatedly, the authorities have remained apathetic.
