Teerth Purohits to fast on Mondays in protest

Published on:

Objecting to works being undertaken in Kedarnath in violation of traditions and without taking the BKTC and Teerth Purohits into confidence, the Teerth Purohits of Kedarnath have decided to undertake fast on Mondays. Addressing the media alongside former CM Harish Rawat, Kedarnath Sabha head Vinod Shukla, Krishnakant Kotiyal of Badrinath Teerth Purohit Sabha and ex head of Kedarnath Sabha, Kishan Bagwadi alleged that the works started by the previous state government had either been stalled or contradicted by actions of the present government. They strongly objected to measures which are not in accordance with tradition and undermine the spiritual grandeur of Kedarnath. There was no bell (Ghanta) at the entrance to Kedarnath while even historical kunds (pools) had been shifted. The helipad behind the shrine should also be shifted to a distance from the shrine to prevent helicopters flying above Kedarnath temple. Seeking correction of such anomalies, the Teerth Purohits will fast every Monday till necessary measures are taken, they stressed.
