With the people of Dehradun and other plain districts of the State reeling under hot and humid condition, frequent power–cuts are exacerbating the problems. In some of the localities in the State’s provisional capital the residents complained of power cuts being imposed for many hours on Sunday.
An official of the department concerned averred that some technical snags had developed at power stations due to which the supply of electricity was disrupted in areas of Dehradun.
Irregular power supply was reported from several places like Salawala, Shivlok Colony, Jogiwala, Tapovan, Sahastradhara Road, Aamwala, MDDA Colony Dalanwala, Curzon Road, Old Survey Road, Dilaram Chowk, Rajpur Road and Karanpur.
The power that had gone off at around11 am on Sunday was restored at around 5.30 pm at Dilaram while at other places in the city irregular power supply was reported during varying hours.
Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) spokesman PC Dhyani said that there was no any specific reason of power cut from any part of the city. Power cut may have been caused by some local problems.
Meanwhile, at some places, the people suffered the effects of power cuts for longer periods affecting routine domestic life and commercial activities in the residential and commercial areas including the Rajpur Road, Raipur, Dharmpur and other localities of the town.
Sagar, a shopkeeper at EC Road said that power- cuts had adversely affected his business during the noon hours. His power- back up was exhausted after some time, he said, adding that his business might suffer considerably if the recurring power cuts remain unresolved.
Nidhi Arora, resident of EC Road said, “We face various problems due to the frequent disruption in electricity supply. The inconvenience caused by such power cuts is exacerbated by the heat and humidity being experienced nowadays.”
Another local, Vani Vihar resident Vinay Semwal, said the erratic power supply was exacerbating the discomfort faced by the people due to the hot and humid conditions.
