The power supply was affected in Roorkee, Kotdwar, and the rural parts of Haridwar due to a technical snag that developed at Haridwar SIDCUl- based 100 MVA transformers and also to overload at 220 KV Puhana-Muzaffarnagar and Rishikesh- based 160 MVA transformers on Saturday, it is learnt.
Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) spokesperson Madhusudan said that the demand for electricity in the State on Thursday was 36.80 million units whereas 34.09 million units of electricity were available. Some of the State run- hydro power projects have remained non-functional due to various reasons which are causing dips in power generation capacity of the State. UPCl received 5.33 MU from various other hydro power units, based in other states.
Power generation has remained stalled in the Hydro Power limited Khatima (42 MW), Maneri Bhali-I (90 MW) and Kalagarh (198 MW) Hydro Power units, as they remain shut due to some reasons. Due to shortage of power generation from various power units being run by the Centre, the State has received just 11. 37 MU on Saturday against the normal volume of 16 MU per day. UPCl would get 4.8 MU power from Haryana in the form of power banking on Sunday while IMU would be received from Uttarakhand’s sugar mills and 9 MU from Indian Energy Exchanges. This would help us to bridge the deficit, he added.
