To protest against the State Government not clearing their salaries for the past two months, the teaching staff of various Government aided colleges, including SGRR (PG) College, MKP (PG) College, DBS (PG) College and DAV (PG) College, sported black ribbons while they worked on Thursday. They would continue to protest in the same way till March 26, the agitators said, adding that they would boycott work for a day on March 27.
Garhwal University Teacher’s Association (GRUTA) general secretary D K Tyagi said that they are agitating under the banner of Federation of Uttarakhand University Colleges Teacher’s Association (FUUCTA).
They threatened to go for an indefinite cease- work from April 4 in case the salaries remain unpaid till then. SGRR (PG) College principal VA Bourai said that the salaries of the teaching staff of the government- aided colleges and some Government colleges have remained erratic for the past one year. “Things have further compounded as we are not receiving salary for the past two months.
We are wondering why things are so. Staffers of SGRR (PG) College worked today while wearing black ribbons. However, we would boycott work on March 24,” he said.
He further said that he had heard that the staffers of DAV (PG) College have received one month’s salary. We wonder why the staffers of other colleges are being discriminated against,” he added.
Notably, a meeting had been held in the DAV (PG) College campus on Wednesday during which the decision to sport black ribbons on the arms for five days from Thursday had been taken.
