To pressurise the State Government to meet their 20-point demands including transparent transfer policy, additional allowances for teachers in mountainous parts, establishment of teachers' union office at Miawala and others, Uttarakhand Government Teachers Union (UGTU) has decided to boycott evaluation of Uttarakhand Class X and Class XII board examination answer sheets slated to begin from April 6.
This was decided in a meeting of UGTU office bearers in the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) on Wednesday. The union president Karnail Singh said that the union has decided to intensify its protest by boycotting classes from April 6 if their demands are not met.
According to him, several meetings on their demands have been held with the education officers but government had remained apathetic. Recently, after receiving assurance of fulfillment of their demands from school education director CS Gwal, the association had called off its boycott of state board examination. A month has passed since the assurance was given but it has not yet been acted upon.
The union joint secretary Renu Sharma said that they had protested at block education office on February 8 and district education office on February 22 in support of 20-point demands. Despite submitting several memorandums to officers, government has not yet acted.
Their demands are formation of teachers’ welfare fund, transfer of teachers on medical grounds, teachers deputed to Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan duties should not be given school works, as per Govt order, post of physical education lecturer should be created, teachers’ retirement age should be 62 years and that teachers or principals who have been working in most inaccessible area for the last 15 years or more should be transferred to accessible area.
