The decision to organise two-day celebrations in the schools of the State is not finding favour with a majority of the teachers as they believe that their two holidays would be cancelled due to it.
On April 13 there is a holiday of Baisakhi and while on 14 there is a national holiday on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. “I was planning to visit my parents in Dehradun during these two days but now the department has ordered that schools would remain open on these days. Why the onus of celebrating all the Jayantis and Government programmes is on teachersIJ’’ asked one of a teachers posted in Jaiharikhal block of Pauri district. The General Secretary of the Prathemik Shikshak Sangh, Digvijay Singh Chauhan told The Pioneer that there should be no problem for the teachers to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti as it hardly takes one to two hours for this activity.
He, however, added that asking teachers to come to the schools on the Baishakhi day to hold debate contest is deplorable. When contacted, the Primary Education Director, Seema Jaunsari said that the decision to hold two day celebration was taken at the level of Government and teachers should follow what is being asked from them.
