To enhance the level of English teaching and to create an environment which is at par with the private schools in the model schools of the State, the education department is planning to undertake a State-level counseling for selection of teachers in these schools.
The objective of the counseling is to select such teachers who are good in communicational and grammatical part of English so that model schools are able to compete with the private schools.
The education department has started five model schools in every administrative block of the state from this academic session.
In what could be called a positive sign for the education department, the number of students enrolled in these schools has increased.
However off late, the department officials have started getting feedback from the parents that the standard of education in these schools has hardly shown any improvement and that the level of English teaching is pathetic.
The Primary education director Seema Jaunsari told The Pioneer that to increase the standard of English teaching in these schools, the department is planning to select teachers by means of a state level counseling.
The department recruited teachers on the basis of a selection process but in it the teachers were restricted to apply for the model schools located in their respective blocks. Jaunsari said that 80 per cent vacancy of teachers in these schools is filled and the rest of the teachers would be filled with teachers who are proficient in English language.
She said these schools are drawing good response in parts of the State and the department is committed to improve quality of education in these schools.
The officials of the education department are overtly sensitive for these schools as Model school project was conceived by state Chief Minister Harish Rawat and it is considered as his dream project.
The department has opened 475 such schools in the State. It intends to provide best infrastructure and teachers in these schools so that the steady trend of reducing enrollment in the Government schools of state can be reversed.
