Scores of teachers under the banner of Uttarakhand Teachers Union staged protest outside Education directorate and demanded fulfillment of pending demands.

The protesters warned that they will intensify their protest across the state if their demands are not met soon.

Teachers and union office bearers assembled outside Education directorate and shouted slogans against state government for not addressing their pending demands.

The union general secretary Sardar Singh Chauhan alleged that several memorandums highlighting pending demands were submitted to the education officers and education minister but Government has remained apathetic.

"Our demands include rectification in irregularities on categorisation of schools located in inaccessible and accessible area, pension benefit to those teachers who were appointed after 2005, working days should not be increased, teacher’s retirement age should be raised to 62 years, teachers should get grade pay every 10 years during service,

English medium should be introduced in government secondary school, pay increment with promotion and creation of the post of physical education lecturer among others. Due to State Government’s apathetic attitude, our demands have not been addressed so far. The association has decided to intensify its protest unless demands are met soon,”

he added.

Union Joint secretary Renu Sharma said that a delegation of union members met the School Education director recently and submitted a memorandum highlighting pending demands.

Despite director’s assurance on fulfilling some of the demands, no action has been taken so far.  In past also, several memorandums to officials were ignored. Among those present on the occasion were Ramesh Painuli, Sonu Mehta and dozens of other union members.
