The teachers belonging to 168 aided schools staged a Secretariat march on Wednesday in support of their one-point demand of payment of salaries. The teachers vented their anger by burning the copies of Government order (GO) which declared all these schools as aided schools.
The members belonging to Ashashakiya Vidhyalaya Sangathan (AVS) gathered at protest site near Parade Ground and marched towards the state secretariat. They were stopped at Kanak Chowk by the police on which they raised a vociferous protest.
The President of the AVS, Trilok Bhandari said that state government included 168 schools under the fold of aided schools in the month of March 2014 and GO for it was issued. The staff employed in these schools has not received salaries from government since then. He said that the hundreds of teachers employed in these schools are suffering as the school managements have stopped paying salaries to them and the state government is yet to release money for salaries.
The AVS is demanding that these schools are different from the private schools as they were set up with the aim of spreading education in remote areas. Bhandari said that teachers serving in these schools are working for last many years but the apathetic attitude of state government has sent them into brink of starvation.
