In course of his planned interaction with students at a Government-run primary school at Kuthal village of Bhagwantpur nyay panchayat under Sahaspur block on Monday, Dehradun District Magistrate SA Murugesan stressed on the role of teachers in moulding the characters of the students.

He said that the responsibility of the teachers is to influence the students to inculcate the timeless cultural values of the land side by side with imparting academics. “It is the teacher who helps the students blossom into  good citizens,”  he said. He also inspected an Anganwadi centre located in the same village.

DM  sounded concerned over the fast deteriorating  quality of education in the schools, saying that they are all worried over it. Exhorting the teachers of the state-run schools to rise up to the challenge adequately, he said that they must prove their worth while discharging their noble duties with the expected level of sincerity and dedication. He also asked them to refrain from absenteeism that is adversely impacting the academic ambience of the institutions.

The school principal Manorama informed the DM that 64 students are enrolled in the school while three teachers are on duty with one on leave. DM also inspected the library and reading room and directed the school principal to inspire  the students to spend adequate amount of time in the library so that they get enough chance to study their subjects in depth.

On the occasion, DM inquired about mid day meal scheme and about the week’s food menu. He spent around one and half hour with the school students and said that he had studied in a government school at his native place and his father was a teacher. He said that the teacher should play the role of  a potter moulding the clay into shapes that the society adores.

DM also visited the Anganwadi centre operating in the same school campus. He inquired about take home ration scheme for children and pregnant women. He also inquired about whether auxiliary nurse and midwife (ANM) is visiting the centre  regularly. He directed the centre teacher to ensure that the children of the locality aged between  9 months to 18 years and the  students of the school are given  Measles and Rubella vaccination under  campaign slated to start from November 10.

Earlier, the former gram pradhan informed Murugesan that  the land adjacent to the school which belongs to Shanshahi Ashram and some lands above it belonging to the  gram sabha should be exchanged. Taking note of this, DM directed additional DM and sub-divisional magistrate to take necessary action.

Among others who accompanied the DM during the unannounced inspection  were ADM (administration) Arvind Kumar Pandey and SDM (Sadar) Pyush Singh.
