Teachers not joining duty after appointment issued notices

The State education department has issued notices to 98 candidates, who have not joined their duties as primary teachers after their appointment. The department had recently conducted a recruitment drive for 2,794 posts of primary teachers. The Primary education director Seema Jaunsari told The Pioneer that these 98 candidates have not joined their designated places even after many reminders and now, the department has issued them an ultimatum to join by January 20.

She informed said that the department would give appointments to the candidates, who are in waiting list if these candidates fail to join their duties by the above mentioned date. The department is also planning to give appointments to 266 candidates in lieu of vacant seats in the recruitment drive. These seats remained vacant after the counseling process, which the department conducted for 2,794 posts.

Meanwhile, the candidates, who have not figured in the merit list, have demanded that the department should immediately take out the revised list of candidates.  The General Secretary of B Ed / TET Unemployed Federation Manveer Rawat said that apart from the vacant 266 posts, the department should also add 389 posts which State Chief Minister Harish Rawat and education minister promised to them.

These unemployed youth are also pinning hopes on the education department to add the 789 more posts which the State government recently created for disaster-affected areas. Manveer Rawat threatened that the unemployed youth would be forced to resume their agitation if the education department does not add these seats in existing recruitment drive.

There are more than 25,000 B Ed and TET qualified youth in the State. These youth carried out a long struggle to pressurise the State government to fill large number of vacant posts of primary teachers in the education department.

These youth were apprehensive as the National Council of Teacher’s Education (NCTE) had directed the State governments that they should only appoint Diploma in elementary education (D El Ed) qualified youth in the primary schools. However, on the request of Uttarakhand Government, NCTE relaxed the order till March 2016 and eased the appointment of B Ed qualified candidates in the primary schools.
