Teachers edgy as SIT demands recruitment-related documents

The Special Investigation Team, formed to probe the recruitment of teachers on forged documents, has asked for the recruitment-related documents involving teachers, a move that has left many of the teachers edgy.

Notably, SIT is probing such appointments in the District Education Department made in 2012, 2013 and 2015. SIT officers said that the District Education Officer (Basic) has sought  such documents  from the blocks concerned.

The Superintendent,  crime research department, Mani Bhushan Srivastava, who is a member of SIT, has ordered verification of documents of all primary teachers recruited during this period. A copy of the Government order stating the minimum qualification for the post of teachers has also been sought from the department. Deputy Education Officer, laksar block Vimla Devi said that as the DEO (Basic) has asked for the documents they would be sent to the department soon.

When queried over the matter, DEO Akash Saraswat said that they are now busy arranging detailed records of some teachers.

Directions have been issued to block level officials to arrange the required documents, he said, adding that those who fail to procure the required documents would face action.

Observers say that the former District Education Officer (Basic) Brahmpal Saini might face the heat of things when the SIT   would wrap up  its probe. Notably, though removed initially, he was later transferred from Haridwar district to Bageshwar district.
