As a good sculptor shapes a stone into a beautiful creation, a teacher also can shape his students in a manner to keep them away from bad habits. One such teacher is posted in Government inter College Rahadgaon who is committed to freeing the youth from the clutches of drugs and other intoxicants that are poisoning several young lives.
He has launched an awareness movement among the school students.
Dr Rakesh Kumar Uniyal, born Chamba Kemri Village, has witnessed since in his childhood how several families are being ruined because of the habit of alcoholism and drug abuse. That made him resolved to fight the social evil tooth and nail. After finishing school education from his native village, he went out for further studies. After doing MA, B.ED and Ph.D, he opted for teaching as his vocation. Uniyal’s first posting as teacher was in 2002 at GIC Chandpur in Chamoli district.
From then onwards, his dream to fight against alcoholism and drug abuse began taking concrete shape.
Along with teaching, he began the awareness campaign among the students on the matter. Inspired by the lead given by the missionary teachers, many youths and elderly people vowed they would quit the bad habits.
Even after being transferred from GIC Ragad Gaon, he continued with his mission whole-heartedly. Along with the awareness campaign, he began getting pledge statements against intoxication from the people at large.
So far, over 5,000 people have pledged to keep away from intoxicants.
He has been honoured by the Education Department as well. Rakesh Uniyal says drugs and other forms of intoxicants and narcotics are major hurdles as far as the right education of the children is concerned.
The habit ruins the body as well as the intellect of the users. The entire family suffers consequently. This menace needs to be uprooted from the society, Uniyal stressed.
