Representatives of Alaknanda Commander Taxi Committee led by Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani met Chief Minister Harish Rawat and submitted a memorandum of demands of the committee. The main demands of the committee include making the age limit of Taxi/Maxi Cab vehicles 15 years as in the past, making the seating capacity 9+1 as earlier which would help in preventing overloading while generating increased tax for the Government.
The memorandum stated that the State Government used to subtract the tax of all types of vehicle earlier but the tax on Taxi/Maxi was extended which should be withdrawn immediately. The vehicles reaching Uttarakhand from the other States must be prevented from moving ahead at Haridwar and Rishikesh and only those drivers authorised to drive on mountain roads should be allowed to drive ahead to the mountainous regions.
The Chief Minister directed principal secretary, Transport, S Ramaswami to facilitate necessary proceedings on the demands stated in the memorandum. The CM also assured the delegation of meeting their reasonable demands. The president of Alaknanda Commander Taxi Committee, Teekam Singh Chauhan and other members of the committee were among those present on the occasion.
