On the occasion of the National Girl Child Day, the twin Tashi and Nungshi Malik who were the first to climb Mount Everest were bestowed with the honour of Brand Ambassador of ‘Beti Bachao Abhiyan’ by Uttarakhand Health Minster SS Negi at the Medical Education Directorate, Chandar Nagar, on Saturday. Negi also gave them citation on the occasion.
Negi also launched a Compact Disk (CD) on Beti Bachao sons in Hindi and Garhwali languages. He expressed disappointment over the decreasing sex ratio in the State. The campaign would raise awareness among the people of the importance of the day. Boys and girls are equal in every respect, he said, adding that the State Government has taken several measures to uplift the condition of women and girls in the State.
The Government is running a scheme called ‘Hamari Kanya Hamara Abhiyan’ to encourage girls to complete their regular and professional education in the State.
