Following shortage of water supply from Jal Sansthan, residents of many areas of the State capital have been collecting water from the water tankers for the past one month. Sometimes, the water tankers too do not arrive at the scheduled time, compounding to their woes.
The areas which are bearing the brunt of the severe water crisis include Kalidas road, Nehru Enclave, Mohit Nagar, Vijay Park, Hari Vihar and Satya Vihar. Side by side, there are some localities the residents of which have been facing the problem of the low pressure of the water. Still, at some places, water lines have snapped due to digging.
Mohit Nagar ward number-53 councilor Amita Singh said that water supply in her ward has remained erratic for the past four years. “Now things turning grim, we are perforce collecting water from the tankers in lieu of money. This has been continuing for the past two months. We have taken the issue to the
department concerned. I personally met the executive engineer of the department, but nothing has happened,” she said.
local residents said that the poor coordination between Peyjal Nigam and Jal Sansthan was the reason behind the problems they have been facing. Earlier, in order to get a permanent solution of the recurring water crisis, a vacant space in the Vijay Park area was given to the department concerned for setting up an overhead tank.
Although the overhead water tank was built Jal Sansthan had not done the connection work. Besides, at many places, old water lines need to be replaced, say the anguished residents.
Sweta Negi, another of the suffering residents, said they are planning to meet the higher-ups of Peyjal Nigam and Jal Sansthan to be led by the councilor, to ask them to take prompt action to solve the problem. Suman Semwal, resident of Jogiwala, said that the residents of his area are used to getting water supply for around one hour each during morning and evening hours which is not sufficient. “The department should raise the time of the supply adequately to solve the crisis we have been facing,” he said.
