Chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh has directed that immediate action be taken in cases of economic crimes. Fool proof standard operating procedure should be adopted for this purpose. The chief secretary said this while presiding over the meeting of the state level coordination committee of the Reserve Bank of India at the secretariat here on Tuesday.

Officials informed in the meeting that the RBI had forwarded 19 cases of economic crimes to the State Government’s special task force (STF). Acting on these, the STF came to the rescue of people in nine cases of fraud. A first information report was lodged against one company and an arrest made in fraud case. Action is underway in the remaining cases. The RBI General Manager Rajesh Kumar thanked the State Government for notifying the Protection of Interests of Depositors Act and the amended Money Lending Regulation Act.

He also appreciated efforts of State Government which resulted in approval for opening office of the registrar of companies in Dehradun. This will enable registration of companies in Dehradun instead of Kanpur. He also informed that 12 multi-state cooperative societies are operating from Uttarakhand.

During investigation, their addresses were found to be incorrect. They did not even inform the registrar, cooperative societies. A communication has been sent to the central registrar of cooperative societies for cancellation of their registration. Finance secretary Amit Singh Negi, ADG Ashok Kumar and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
