In view of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain forecast at isolated places across the State by the meteorological department, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has directed all the district magistrates to observe precautionary measures. The Chief Minister further directed the officials to ensure that no inconvenience is faced by the people undertaking the Char Dham Yatra and those undertaking the Kanwad Yatra. In addition to making provision of essential items for the pilgrims, the district magistrates should also ensure facilitation of temporary accommodation and meals for them. The officials have also been told to ensure that the essential items are made available to the pilgrims at fair price. The chief minister talked on the phone to the district magistrates of Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Haridwar to take stock of the present status of the Char Dham Yatra and rainfall in these areas.
People in the low lying areas in proximity to rivers should be alerted and if needed, shifted to secure locations, said Rawat, while also directing officials to raise the pace of work on reopening of the roads blocked by debris and other factors in various parts of the State.
