The controversy over the Dwarka Sankaracharya peeth is set to haunt the holy town once more with the Sankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati arriving at his ashram at Kankhal here on Sunday.
Recently Bhuma Peethadheeshwar Swami Achyutanand Teerth was anointed as the Sankaracharya of Dwarka peeth by Kashi Vidvat Parishad which some averred was self-proclaimed by him. Already heading the peeth, Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati’s arrival here is being considered the first time in recent memory when two Sankaracharyas of the same peeth will be staying in Haridwar city at the same time.
Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati has already tagged the anointing ceremony of Achyutanand Teerth as fake. The Akhara Parishad has also expressed its opposition to the same.
On the contrary Achyutanand Teerth is making a stand stressing that only the Kashi Vidvat Parishad has the right to select the Shankaracharya.
The Sumeru Peethadheeshwar Swami Narendranand had called his anointing ceremony as just.
Till May 10 both the Shankaracharyas would be present in Haridwar. Swaroopanand Saraswati has scheduled his five days visit to Chandigarh from May 11 to 15 and is to return on May 16 to Haridwar. During his sojourn, he would also visit Badrinath and Joshimath.
