Condemning the controversial remark of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati of Dwarka Jyotishpeeth and Badrinath Shardapeeth has said “our country is not represented by film stars.” There is no such atmosphere of intolerance in the country and no person is insulted here on account of his religion, he asserted.
Speaking to the mediapersons at his Kankhal ashram on Sunday, the Shankaracharya said the Muslim people were living in India with full honour and no Muslim faces any trouble because of his following Islam. Hinting towards Aamir Khan he said that if someone wishes to leave India because of religious issues, he is free to go. Giving a word of caution, he said, "If his family wishes to go to Pakistan, she would have to wear Burquaa whereas in India women are given full honour, They are leaders and all muslims enjoy full facilities."
Comparing with other developed countries like China and Japan, Shankaracharya said that Muslims are not allowed to offer Namaz there and there is restriction on building mausoleums. In our country it is never like this. Here everyone is given freedom to enjoy and express.
He further said that the government may be secular but no individual is secular. He is bound to follow one or the other religion. If you are Hindu follow Hinduism and if Muslim, follow Islam. But many people follow double standard and they are playing with our feelings saying there is environment of intolerance in the country which is not.
