Swajal employees hold strike demanding job regularization

Demanding regularisation of their jobs, the employees of Swajal would observe a strike on Wednesday. Under the banner of ‘Swajal Karamchari Sangh Uttarakhand’, the employees observed a symbolic strike on Tuesday. In a letter directed to the Potable water minister the President of the association Sanjay Srivasthava said that after a tripartite meeting presided over by the minister on April 17, the association had suspended its work boycott call. However no action on the demands of the workers has been taken till date. Srivastava said that the director Swajal has recently released an order which is against the interests of the employees. In the order the director had ordered that the rates of Uttarakahnd Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam limited (UPNl) would be implemented in Swajal also for the contractual workers. The President of the association said that the government on one hand claims to generate employment but on the other hands employees of Swajal are on verge of job loss. The employees are angry on such double standards adopted by the government, he added. Srivasthava warned that if the demands of the employees are ignored further then association would be forced to initiate an intense agitation.
