A shadow of terror looming over the Kanwad Mela, post the terror strike on the   Amarnath pilgrims, panic gripped the holy city when  the dog-squad, deployed to ensure security during the pilgrimage, stumbled over a  suspicious object during the checking drive in Bairagi camp on Tuesday morning.  The object was later diffused at a safer place. The camp is being used presently as a parking lot with millions of pilgrims thronging Haridwar. later, it was learnt from the police that the object  resembled a rod  found in a drain running through Bairagi camp kanwad parking area. As the sniffer dogs smelt something fishy the  bomb diffusing squad was summoned immediately.

Speaking of the matter,  SSP Krishna Kumar V K said, “On receiving information, we inspected the site. It is not verified if it was an explosive. But as a precautionary measure, we neutralised it while  taking it to a safer place.  Though we are nearly convinced that it was not an explosive we have  sent it to the forensic laboratory for testing.”

Meanwhile, the district magistrate Deepak Rawat has appealed to all the pilgrims to call on ‘100’ if  they find any suspicious person or object  during the Kanwad mela days.
