Treasury bench faced embarrassment on Monday as MlA Surendra Singh Jeena sought to move a breach of privilege motion while slamming the state government for retrenching the UPNl employees, appointed through outsources in the government departments.
He said that despite the State Government repeatedly assuring the UPNl employees that they would not be retrenched, the process of retrenchment was going on unabated. Recounting their plight, he said that close to 13000 employees, now working through UPNl, are being kept on the edge despite their receiving meagre amounts as salaries. “They joined with a hope that they would be given preference at the time of government appointments. But they are being given a short shrift by the state government,” the MlA said.
Parliamentary affairs minister Prakash Pant, seeking to dilute the issue while defending the right of the MlAs to raise any motion they like, said that the matter was pending with the assurance committee of the Vidhan Sabha. “Thus, the breach of privilege is unwarranted,” he added.
