Some supporters of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (Airy faction) joined the Congress party here on Sunday. The party activists who joined the Congress were headed by UKD youth wing leader Renu Semwal.
At a function held to welcome the newcomers to the party, Congress Mahanagar head and former head of the Uttarakhand bar council, Prithviraj Chauhan averred that the Congress appreciates the potential of youth. He said, “The BJP duped the youth to get elected to power. The BJP had promised major developments and employment for the youth but the youth are now being exploited. On the other hand, the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi accord special importance to the youth in the party organisation,” averred Chauhan.
