The Congress-backed candidate, Sunil Kumar, was declared victorious in the election for the post of vice-president of Clement Town Cantonment Board on Monday. The president of the Clement Cantonment Board Brigadier P Panth declared the election of Sunil Kumar. The Congress-backed candidate secured the support of four ward members while the BJP-supported candidate Taseem Ali could get the backing of only three ward members.

Incidentally, the BJP was holding the position of vice-president in the previous board. The presence of Forest Minister Dinesh Agarwal during the elections proved the importance the Minister and the Congress party was giving to the elections. The first board meeting after the election of VP was a stormy one. Former VP of cantonment board Bhupendra Kandari was made head of the building committee on which the Congress members objected.

later talking to The Pioneer, Kandari alleged that the Congress party engaged in horse-trading to get Sunil Kumar elected. He claimed the Congress board would fall soon as he would bring a no-trust motion. Sunil Kumar said he would focus on development of the area.
