With increase in temperature, the number of patients in the hospitals of the State capital has also increased. Due to the huge rush of patients, the administration of Doon hospital here has asked the doctors to admit only serious patients in the wards. Doon hospital is the biggest hospital of the State and has 380 beds for in-house patients. The data suggests that about 2,500-2,600 patients visit the OPD of the hospital on a normal day but in last few days the figure has jumped to 3,000-3,200.

The medical experts attribute the increase in patients with increase in temperature. They point out that the cases of bacterial infection increase during this period of time. To prove their point most of the patients who are reporting in the hospital are suffering from Diarrhea. The child ward of the hospital is also packed with the patients. The senior physician of Doon hospital, Mahavir Singh, advised that people should ensure that they are eating freshly cooked food and consuming safe drinking-water. The doctors also highlight the role of good personal and food hygiene to prevent the infection.

The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon hospital, Dr RS Aswal, said the doctors have been advised to keep patients only for 11 days in the wards. He, however, added that the order is not applicable for serious patients. The Doon hospital caters to large number of patients from the Garhwal division apart from them many patients from neighbouring districts of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh also visit the hospital in large numbers.
