The women Industrial Training Institute (ITI) of Kashipur has not been able to start courses in six new trades due to the illegal occupation of the office of commissioner, sugarcane development. The said building was stated to be occupied by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur. In such a scenario the sugarcane department office is being run from the building of Women ITI.
A Right to Information (RTI) activist, Nadeem Uddin informed that in response to an RTI query filed by him, the Public Information Officer (PIO) of women ITI, Kashipur has revealed that IIM Kashipur is occupying the building of Sugarcane department from June 3, 2013 due to which the Sugarcane department which was needed to be shifted to the building of the Women ITI is still operating there.
The officer informed that due to lack of building the institute is not able to start six new courses aimed to inculcate entrepreneurial skills in women trainees. The petitioner was also provided a copy of letter of Director Training and employment which he wrote to Under Secretary Sugarcane and Sugar industries that it is not legal on part of the IIM to occupy the building of the Sugarcane development department as there is no government directive on occupation of the building by IIM after June 2, 2013.
In the letter it was further requested to the state government that the IIM should be asked to vacate the administrative blocks, guest house and hostel of the Sugarcane department so that the office of Commissioner Sugarcane and sugar is shifted to its own premises.
The Women ITI has informed that the purchase of all necessary equipment for six new courses is done by the college and as per the orders of DGET the re-affiliation of trades is needed to be done but all these process are hindered as the first floor of the ITI college is occupied by the office of commissioner Sugarcane development.
It is worth mentioning here that the Women ITI Kashipur is one of the colleges selected by the World bank funded VTIP project and a sum of Rs 200 lakh is approved by the Union Ministry of labour for up gradation of existing facilities.
