Published on:

Hearing on a case pertaining to the former chairman of the Ramnagar Municipal Council getting Government land registered in his name, the High Court of Uttarakhand has directed the Ramnagar Municipal Council and the Urban Development department to submit their reply within a period of four weeks. According to the case details, lalit Mohan Pandey had filed a public interest litigation in the high court stating that during 1997-98 about 18 bigha land had been purchased at Ramnagar for the purpose of a trenching ground.

However the registry of the said land could not be done then. The petitioner further claims that after becoming the chairman of the municipal council in 1997-98 the then chairman disposed of the land and got about 15 bigha of it documented in his and his wife’s names. In a past, after an inquiry the commission had also directed that a first information report be lodged in the case.

However, no action had been taken on this direction. The matter was taken up for hearing in the division bench of chief justice KM Joseph and justice Alok Singh.
