Angered by inferior quality of work being undertaken for tarring of the Badshahithaul-Dalachali motor road, villagers got the work stopped questioning the working of the department. The protesting villagers allowed the work to be resumed only after being assured by the executive engineer, Asian Development Bank (ADB) that there will be no compromise with the quality of the work.
The deteriorated condition of the Badshahithaul-Dandachali motor road has been a cause of inconvenience and discomfort for travellers for some years now. The department concerned has now finally taken cognisance of the deteriorated condition of this motor road and started work on tarring the same.
However, the villagers are not satisfied because the quality standards are being neglected in the execution of the tarring work, they alleged.
Concerned villagers angered by the quality of the work reached Badshahithaul on Sunday morning. Complaining that the work of the tarring was inferior quality, the dissatisfied villagers got the work stopped.
The villagers pointed out that though the painting work is still on, the potholes have already started appearing on the road which points towards corruption in the work. Reaching the site, the ADB executive engineer S Rathi had to face ire of villagers who complained and questioned the quality standards being maintained in the road work.
Conducting an inspection of the road, the executive engineer acknowledged the recent painting has come off in some patches of the road. He assured villagers that work will be undertaken again on this road. Those who participated in the protest included Sushil Bahuguna, Chaman Kothari, Anup Uniyal, Balwant Makhloga, Shiv Prasad, Jagdish Badoni, Sudhir Bahuguna, Rajesh and other locals.
