Defying the University Grant Commission (UGC) norms, the State Government has decided to enroll even those admission-seekers in various courses in degree or post graduate (PG) colleges whose names have not figured in the merit list for admissions as per the UGC norms.
Following the UGC guidelines, admission process is on in different degree or PG colleges across the State on merit basis. But a majority of the students has not been able to get admissions in colleges of their choice across the State after having failed to figure in the merit list as per the UGC norms.
However, the State higher Education Minister Indira Hridayesh has made it clear that admission will be given even to those students who have failed to get admissions in degree or PG colleges on the basis of merit.
Principals of all the degree or PG colleges and the director, high education department, have been directed to ensure that all such students get admissions in higher education classes, the minister further said.
“Many students have not figured in the merit list due to lesser percentage. This is no reason why they should be deprived of higher education. Hence, the State Government has decided to step in,” added, added Hridayesh.
Following the UGC norms as many as 1440 students have got admissions in first year degree course in all streams in the M B P G College, Haldwani this year. However, admission eluded over 3,000 students in the same college. They are now battling hard to get admission in other colleges.
