To make the State free of drug abuse, the Anti Drug Task Force (ADTF) has started making Anti Drug Committees (ADCs) at institution level. These committees have students from the same institution, teachers or professors and members of Special Task Force as members, so that a direct approach can be initiated to let the students affected know about the consequences narcotics can have.
The committees will identify the students in need and provide them with professional counselling. The STF Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Swatantra Kumar said, “The ADCs will be giving monthly feedback to us. We are also working on parallel project budding formation, through which the students can be relieved of the peer pressure to use narcotics. For raising awareness in the students about the major consequences these narcotics can have on a person we are broadcasting a short video in all picture halls in the city and a similar social message is being circulated through radio and social media platforms.”
He further added, “We have made these committees to ensure responsibility. For the rehabilitation also we are in touch with different department such as Student Welfare Department, Health Department, administration and police. In order to stop the transition of these narcotic substances we are also focusing on the areas where some of these substances are cultivated, for that we are involving agriculture, revenue and forest departments. For the awareness about narcotic substances we are involving education department to add information about them in the curriculam, so that from the ground level we can totally cut the demand for such substances.” Kumar said, “We are also providing a platform for those parents and guardians who even after knowing that their children are going on wrong track are unable to do anything.
Such parents can bring their children to us directly or they can inform about the activities of their children and we will take action accordingly. Through our awareness campaign we are also trying to making adults of the family aware enough to take hints from the behaviour, clothes and habits of their children and stop them from going on the wrong track.”
