A total of 5,108 students applied for Btech, Mtech, BPharm, MPharm, BArch, MCA, MBA and PhD programmes in the first counselling of Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT) University which began at its campus on Saturday. Around 1,200 students are likely to be offered admissions to eight programmes in BTech course. This was disclosed by Dr Krishna Kumar, vice chancellor, DIT University on Monday.

Amid heavy rains, students and parents reached the university premises for the counselling session. The university also had a huge pool of online applicants for different programmes, but only talented and meritorious students could be offered admissions, he added.

Dr Kumar said, "We are especially pleased to have the opportunity to have admitted students not just from Uttarakhand but from across the nation. The rush for counselling reflects the popularity of programmes offered which have consistently received high placements in reputed industries and organisations during the campus placements, particularly during the last three academic sessions".

Dr Kumar further said that the first counselling was done on the basis of Class XII merit, based on percentage of marks, secured in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English and also through Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) mains merit list. With this nearly 90 percent seats in all the Btech branches have been allotted.

The vice chancellor said that the newly introduced Integrated programmes (Btech+Mtech and Btech+MBA) and Btech collaborative programmes (in association with IBM) appeared to be very popular and in great demand. Students scoring 90 percent and above in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and 95 percent and above in Indian School Certificate (ISC) boards were also given direct admissions in above programmes.

Earlier, the University had enrolled 250 students in its Mtech and PhD programmes during the counselling held recently in the campus. He further said that University also hosted counseling for the students of MBA, MCA and BPharm programmes and more than 400 students attended the counseling. The counseling was done for 60 seats in MBA, 120 seats in MCA and 72 seats in BPharm.

"We are overwhelmed by the response to our call for merit based counselling. The exemplary patience shown by the students and their guardians during reporting and counseling has been unprecedented," he added.

The vice chancellor said that University will hold the counseling for Bachelor of Architecture programme in July. Prospective candidates are required to visit the University website www.dituniversity.edu.in for regular updates. The academic session will commence from August 1.
