Hundreds of college students led by DBS (PG) College students’ union ex-president Kamlesh Bhatt took out a rally to Vidhan Sabha and demanded appointments to the posts reserved for scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and other backward classes in various Government departments immediately on Monday.
The administration arranged a meeting of the protesters with the Chief Minister Harish Rawat in the Vidhan Sabha. A five-member delegation met the CM and requested him to release advertisement for filling backlog vacancies in various departments reserved for SC/ST and OBCs. The CM assured them that government will take all possible steps to address their demands soon.
the protesters assembled at Parade Ground and rallied to Vidhan Sabha raising anti-Government slogans but they were stopped at the barricading near Rispana Bridge. The protesters sat on demonstration at the barricading where Bhatt alleged that the State Government was responsible for not making appointments to the posts reserved for SC/ST and OBCs in the State. “We had earlier submitted several memorandums addressed to the CM and cabinet ministers but our demands are yet to be addressed," he said.
Appointments to around 35, 000 reserved posts have been on the backlog in various departments for the last many years but government has not taken necessary measures for filling these posts. "We will intensify out protest across the State if Government fails to address our demands," he warned.
