Student leaders under the banner of Shiksha Bachao Sangharsh Samiti closed the DAV (PG) college and DBS (PG) college forcibly to protest against introduction of evening classes on self-finance mode and principals’ decision on merit based admissions. Student leaders warned that they will continue protesting in the campus of these colleges unless their demands are met.

However, DAV (PG) College principal Devendra Bhasin said that he met the Education principal secretary Radha Raturi following which Rs5, 000 annual fee for each self finance courses in evening session was decided.

NSUI member Sandeep Kumar said that he along with other SBSS members met the principal secretary Radha Raturi on Tuesday and she assured that steps would be taken for redressal of their grievances. Kumar further said that the SBSS members had also met the Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Monday evening and received positive response from him.

On Tuesday, student leaders reached the college and sat on demonstration shouting anti-college administration slogans. later they forcibly closed the college and disrupted college functioning. They alleged that the college management has not addressed their issues though they have been protesting for more than 15 days. In stead of increasing seats in bachelor degree courses, the college management has introduced self finance courses.

They said that they will continue to protest till the management withdraws its decision on conducting evening classes on self finance mode and till seats for bachelor degree are increased according to last year’s admission figures. Student leaders also protested at DBS College in support of same demands and disrupted college functioning.
