Dozens of students led by college students’ union president Rakesh Singh Negi staged a  stir  at DAV (PG) College on Saturday, demanding students be given admission on the vacant seats. later, they forcibly closed the gate of the principal’s office and the account office. However, the principal Devendra Bhasin alleged that some students’ leaders were pressuring him to enroll some students in various degree courses in the college illegally. “As per reports I have received, some students’ leaders have taken money from the students in lieu of enrollment in the college. Hence they pressure. Recently two students were caught trying to get admission illegally. They later fled with the documents.  We will not allow such illegal enrollment,” he said.

Bhasin further said that he had had the account office opened with the help of local police. “I have worked from the chief proctor’s office. The classes in the college would be held as usual on Monday. We would have the gate of the principal’s office opened with the assistance of police on Monday,” he added

However, the student leaders alleged that the college is facing shortage of basic facilities. Vacant seats on various degree courses are not being filled by the college administration, they said, adding that the process of admission has not been completed in the college till now despite the internal examination scheduled in October approaching nearer. A well-defined admission policy vis-à-vis the vacant seats should be formulated too, they said. The union will intensify its protest unless the demands are met, they warned.

According to the students, those who figure in the first, second and third lists should be allowed to enroll in various degree courses. Moreover, a committee should be formed at college level to deal with this issue. Besides, they said construction of 18 rooms in the college going on for the past one and half years should be completed fast. They demanded a committee be formed to oversee construction and its quality.

In another development, protesting against the delay in the release of scholarship to the intended students, DAV (PG) College students’ union leaders protested at Social Welfare department office on Saturday. They demanded immediate release of the scholarship, saying scholarship is not being given over the past one year. They also demanded free coaching be provided to the students belonging to SC/ST for competitive examinations.
